Farmland Bird Recovery

The cluster is supporting farmland bird recovery through a range of practical, on-the-ground interventions and partnerships. This includes the installation of nest boxes in collaboration with the Hawk Conservancy Trust, helping to improve breeding opportunities for key species across the landscape. 

Farms also do supplementary winter bird seed and feeding buckets, providing vital food during the winter ‘hungry gap’ when natural seed sources are scarce. This targeted support helps sustain declining farmland bird species through the toughest months and improves their chances of breeding successfully the following spring. 

Together, these measures combine immediate practical action with longer-term learning, strengthening outcomes for birds while supporting farmers to play an active role in recovery.
